Despite the heat of midsummer, last week was an impressive one for Ohio State University sports, with eight of 42 total players selected in the Professional Women's Hockey League draft on Monday, including two of the top five players overall.
In other words, nearly one in five professional sports draftees come from one school. Nadine Muzeral must be proud!
Later in the week, Marvin Harrison Jr. threw out the first pitch at an Arizona Diamondbacks game alongside fellow rookie and Cardinals teammate Darius Robinson. Harrison Jr. may not have the arm strength of former quarterback CJ Stroud, but with his hands he could be a great catcher!
Meanwhile, Neil Shipley, who made a name for himself at the Masters earlier this year, is back in the spotlight this week at another major, the U.S. Open. Shipley sank a sharp putt earlier in the week and hit a beautiful drive onto the par-four green today.
Now back in the NFL, former Ohio State All-Big Ten sprinter and club football player Pryde Olatoke has earned an opportunity with the Los Angeles Chargers and is looking to become the latest success story of the NFL's International Pathway Program.
Among the players still on campus, Luciana Perry also won Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors Thursday following an All-American season, becoming the first Buckeye to win the Collegiate Tennis Association All-American Freshman Award.
Gene Smith is enjoying his final month as Ohio State's athletic director, and this week Lionel Richie visited Schott to celebrate the AD's final term.
Buckeye fans, football season is fast approaching and you're not the only one looking forward to the days ahead – the players are looking forward to taking to the field again too.
