PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – After 80 years in business, Triangle Tech has announced it will close its doors.
The school announced its decision to close six of its locations across Pennsylvania on Wednesday. Although the schools will be closed, all educational obligations for current students will be fulfilled, meaning students are expected to graduate with associate degrees in technical fields by June 2025.
“For 80 years, a Triangle Tech diploma has been a source of pride and a pathway to good jobs for our students,” said President Emeritus Timothy McMahon. “Unfortunately, the pandemic, changing industry conditions and tough times have made this a reality.”
“Government restrictions have changed the economics of many higher education institutions. As a result of these factors and declining enrollment, we have made the very difficult, but necessary decision to close our doors.”
Currently, a total of 261 students are enrolled at Triangle Tech.
Students and faculty were informed of the decision to close on Wednesday, and the closure will immediately affect only about 20 of the school's 110 faculty and staff members.
Meanwhile, the Worksmith Institute, a local educational nonprofit, awarded each student a $1,500 tuition scholarship to help them complete their education.
“We are in touch with stakeholders, including the accreditation board and relevant federal and state authorities, to share our plans for a smooth and successful exit so that all students can complete their degrees.
“Education is our goal,” McMahon said, “and we're optimistic that we can provide a good education for our current students.”
Before its closure, Triangle Tech offered associate degrees in technical education fields and had locations in Pittsburgh, Greensburg, DuBois, Sunbury, Bethlehem and Chambersburg.
