Tri-County Technical College student Yasmina Breton received the National Women's Information Technology Center Award on April 9 for her passion in the field of computing.
The award, sponsored by Bank of America, is open to female, genderqueer, or non-binary students in grades 9-12 as part of an effort to encourage diverse students to choose careers in technology. The award recognizes achievements and interests related to computing. The National Award is sponsored by Bank of America.
“It's important to encourage students who have traditionally been underrepresented in technology fields,” said Terry Hogan, NCWIT CEO and Executive Director. are growing in number and are vital to ensuring they are of benefit to the widest range of groups.” As many people, as diverse as possible, must dream and create it. ”
Mr. Bruton joins 400 recipients chosen from high schools across all 50 states and U.S. territories for their outstanding aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing. Mr. Bruton was honored for his accomplishments at Tri-County Technical College and Barnsdall High School.
Bruton distinguished himself both in the pre-engineering program and as a member of Tri-County Technical College’s FIRST Robotics Team 2165. She serves as the team's programmer and also helps scout potential students to join.
“Yasmina [Bruton] The company has taken the robot to several schools and clubs to demonstrate the robot and encourage young people to explore engineering, robotics and programming,” said pre-engineering instructor Kendall Baker. “She is highly motivated, always learning and ready to take on leadership roles.”
She plans to utilize these skills in the future as she searches for internships and other opportunities to succeed in the engineering field.
“Tri-County Tech has given me a community to grow and thrive in,” Bruton said. “Without this community, I wouldn’t be here right now.”
