From a former high school quarterback to a Group of Five receiver to an SEC standout and a potential early pick in next year's NFL Draft. Ole Miss Wide receiver Tre Harris has had a turbulent football career.
But he proved he was worthy of being a future pro when he arrived in Oxford in 2023. Despite not being healthy for even half the season due to an early-season knee injury, Harris finished just yards shy of 1,000 yards. He had 54 catches for 985 yards and eight touchdowns, four of which came in his Rebels debut against Mercer.
At the end of the season, he could have applied for the NFL Draft, but with key players returning to compete for a national championship, Harris opted to spend his fifth and final season of college football at Ole Miss.
“The biggest thing for me is being able to get back into an offense that I trust and improve my skill set. I feel confident I can do that here. I work well with my teammates, I work well with the coaching staff and I work well with the quarterback,” Harris previously said. “Plus there's a 12-team playoff. We want to go there and win it… We all saw how the season went this year. We felt like if we could do it again, we could go even further. We pretty much all came down to one thing: 'Hey, let's do it again, we know what happens after that.' We didn't really get what we wanted (in 2023), which was an SEC championship and a playoff appearance. Next year, with 12 teams, our chances are better. We pretty much all came down to the idea of 'Hey, let's do it again. Let's do it again.'”
Heisman Trophy-contesting quarterback Jackson Dart There are high expectations for this duo in 2024, despite the number of quality weapons on Harris' team.
Harris was recently named to 247Sports' Top 25 “returning” players for the 2024 season, highlighted in this era of frequent transfers as the best player to return to play for his original team in 2023. Harris will once again be entering his second season as a Rebel.
