Luzerne County high school seniors are preparing to travel to Canada to play against the U.S. Senior Men's National Indoor Field Hockey Team.
LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — It takes a lot of discipline to excel in any sport.
Dallas' Koel Comiskey plays field hockey at the national level and has to keep to a very strict schedule.
“I wake up around 6 a.m., stretch, then have a good breakfast. I have school, so I leave the house around 2:15 p.m. and come here. I feel stressed again.” 4 I'll play hockey until about 10:00 and then go to training. I'll come back and have some fun until 6pm. I have to go home, do my homework, and then do it. Go for a run. That's it,” said Koel Comiskey of Dallas.
In between traveling to play with his teammates, Cole practices at the Surge Field Hockey facility in Kingston.
“It's outdoor field hockey. I'm on the U.S. team, the national team, and then indoor field hockey, which is played in the core. I'm on the senior men's national team,” Kale said.
However, playing this sport in our region comes with some challenges.
Girls and women's teams dominate the sport in northeastern and central Pennsylvania, as well as most of the East Coast.
“We have that in American field hockey, where you can play in national tournaments and tournaments with girls until they're 14 years old, and after that, they're not allowed,” Cole explained.
So in some cases, you can practice with those teams, but you have to travel to practice with your teammates.
“So, do you think you practice alone most of the time?” Yes, I think so. But it's not as bad as you think. I like it because it gives me time to work on things I'm not good at. And when you play with your team, you can adjust that in the game,” Cole said.
Cale plays a defensive position, so he spends a lot of time practicing with the rebounder.
Because what crosses him could end up being another team's goal
Reliably using the right side of his stick to catch passes and send them in the right direction will take a lot of practice, especially in some of the situations Cole plays at the national level.

This month, he plans to test his skills with his U.S. men's national team teammates in Canada, saying, “When we play Argentina, Canada, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, we're eliminated. They're poor guys. And “If we come out on top,” he says, “two of the five would have qualified for the World Cup.”
Kale and his teammates were able to compete against teams from Europe, Africa, and Australia.
