The date for Rhys McLaren's long-awaited return to the ONE Championship stage has been decided.
“Lightning” will face off against Fu Yong in a battle of flyweight MMA contestants. Their bout will take place on Prime Video's ONE Fight Night 22, which will be broadcast live in prime time in the United States from the legendary Lumpini Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on May 3.
The fourth-place candidate, McLaren, boasts an impressive track record in the world's largest martial arts organization. Six of his 10 wins under the promotion's banner have come by submission.
Additionally, the Australian dynamo is also a former world title contender in the MMA bantamweight division.
When he moved down to flyweight in 2017, he completely shined as a competitor, using his skill on the ground as an asset.
However, McLaren recognized that he needed to evolve as a complete martial artist. This led him to hone his striking game under the tutelage of Muay Thai legend John Wayne Parr.
The last time fans saw McLaren in action was in May 2023 in a rematch with Kairat Akhmetov. Despite a valiant effort, he fell short and lost by unanimous decision.
Now hungry for redemption, McLaren is ready to make a statement against Hu, who is fifth in the rankings.
On the other hand, Hu entered the match with his natural energy.
The Chinese slugger currently has 8 wins and 1 loss in ONE. They have won the last three games with overwhelming performances. This includes Eko Roni Saputra's super fast 63 second finish.
Mr. Hu's remarkable performance earned him a place in the ranking.
