Even if Aljamain Sterling doesn't win his fight with Brian Ortega, there's still a chance he can get a scrap with the No. 5 ranked featherweight contender.
'The Funk Master' made a successful debut in the featherweight division at UFC 300, delivering what he believed to be the 'most dominant performance' of the landmark event against Calvin Kattar. The win instantly vaulted Sterling into the top 10 of the division, earning him the eighth place spot.
Sterling then requested a match against Ortega. But even if that doesn't happen, the former bantamweight champion thinks a showdown with undefeated Russian standout Movsar Evloev could be a “fun” bout.
“I prefer the Ortega fight because I'm going for the belt. If there's a fight and you give me a choice, I'm going to choose the highest ranked fighter,” Sterling said in MMA. Told. time. “It’s not like a fight with Mofusah wouldn’t be fun. Two grapplers, the way we set up would be a really fun fight…If you have a style like mine and him, Diego Lopez would make a fun fight. I think it could be a fun fight, just like it was.”

In response to Sterling's comments, Evloev praised the former champion's courage in seeking a match with him. This is something few featherweight competitors are willing to do these days.
“@funkmasterMMA You're brave enough to talk about me. I love it! Call the UFC and fight me. I'm ready,” Evloev wrote to X.
Evloev has an impressive 18-0 record in his mixed martial arts career, with eight of his wins coming in the UFC. His most notable double fights have been against Dan Ige, Diego Lopez, and most recently Arnold Allen.
