Tony Bellew is a keen boxing historian and a man of firm belief about the greatest punchers in boxing history.
Bellew himself had numerous knockout wins, including a win over Ilunga Makabu for the WBC cruiserweight title in 2016, and back-to-back knockout wins against David Haye, winning a total of 30 fights by knockout before being stopped in his final bout by Oleksandr Usyk.
Speaking to Lucky Block Casino, “The Bomber” spoke about the punching power of former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, who is known for his hard hitting, and believes Wilder should retire.
“He's the greatest puncher of the modern era. People who say he's the greatest puncher of all time clearly don't understand.”
And he made it clear who that honor should go to: George Foreman.
“George Foreman is arguably the greatest puncher in the history of boxing.”
Look who George Foreman knocked unconscious. George Foreman knocked out Joe Frazier. Joe Frazier was the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world and he had Ali beaten, but he lifted Ali with an uppercut and he landed him on his knees. Look at his fight with Ron Lyle. He was a phenomenal fighter and he knocked out Ken North, a real powerhouse. He came back at 40 and knocked out Michael Moore, who had beaten Evander Holyfield.
Foreman recorded 68 knockouts in a career spanning more than four decades. “Big George” defeated Michael Moore to win the WBA and IBF belts at age 45 and still holds the record as the oldest heavyweight champion in history.
