Tom Brady said he would retire from football “for good” on February 1, 2023, but he may be having second thoughts.
Appearing on the Deep Cuts podcast on Thursday, Brady was asked by host Vic Brend if he would answer a call from a team if he was injured.
“I'm not against it,” Brady said. “If I become an owner of an NFL team, I don't know if they're going to let me in. I'm always going to be in good shape. I can always throw the ball. So to get in. ”For a moment, like MJ [Michael Jordan] I don't know if they will forgive me when I come back. But I don't object to that. ”
Brend suggested a scenario in which the San Francisco 49ers might need a quarterback for the playoffs, but Brady also mentioned the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders before giving his answer.
In May 2023, Brady reached an agreement with Raiders owner Mark Davis to join the organization's ownership group, pending NFL approval.
That approval has not yet been granted, and commissioner Roger Goodell said at the annual meeting in March that the league was “going through a very thorough process” and believed it was “moving forward.” he said.
Brady, 46, will begin working as a sportscaster for Fox Sports this summer.
Brady addressed his upcoming work with Fox Sports on his podcast, saying, “I love this challenge of trying something different in life. It's going to challenge me in a lot of ways.”
At one point in the podcast, Brady said: “My career and everything else is in the past in my mind. I was a gladiator, but now my time has moved on. Now I'm like, 'Okay, how can I do that?' 'Would you like to contribute to the next group of teammates? ”
Brady's comments, made on a podcast while sitting in a barber's chair, caused a stir on social media, especially in New England. In New England, the Patriots are planning a ceremony to honor Brady on June 12th with a packed stadium.
Brady played for the Patriots from 2000 to 2019 and won six Super Bowls. He finished his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2020 to 2022, winning his seventh Super Bowl championship.
