NBA sues over TV rights deal

TNT isn't planning on losing its media rights deal with the NBA without a fight: The company just sued the basketball organization, claiming it has a “contractual right” to continue broadcasting games going forward.

TNT officials argue in the lawsuit that the NBA fully accepted Amazon's proposal and cannot legally accept Amazon's contract.
“We have taken legal action to enforce our rights,” TNT said in a statement Friday morning. “This is not just a contractual right, but we strongly believe it is in the best interest of fans who want to continue watching industry-leading NBA content with the choice and flexibility offered through widely-used WBD video-first distribution platforms, including TNT and Max.”

TNT has aired NBA games since the '80s, but on Tuesday the NBA announced it would stop broadcasting all games after 2025.
The association was adamant that TNT “did not meet the terms of Amazon Prime Video's proposal,” but shortly thereafter announced that TNT had indeed submitted the same proposal.
Neither side seems likely to give in anytime soon… a messy legal battle is about to begin.
During, Charles Barkley — One of the hosts of TNT's hugely popular show “Inside the NBA” — He blamed the NBA. As for how it all happened…Silver's organization is accusing TNT of not giving him fair treatment.
“It's pretty clear from the beginning that the NBA wanted to break away from us,” the Hall of Famer said. “I don't know if TNT had a chance.”
The NBA has not yet responded to the lawsuit.
