The LSU football staff is bringing another key defensive line target with Indiana transfer Phillip Bridy scheduled to head to Baton Rouge on Wednesday, sources confirmed to LSU Country this week.
Bridy, who is one of the most coveted transfers in the portal, will contact Brian Kelly and others before continuing with his visiting schedule. He plans to visit LSU after his visit to Washington. From there, he is scheduled to head to Oklahoma on April 19th.
LSU, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M will continue to be the schools monitored in Bridy's recruiting efforts, according to people familiar with his recruiting efforts.
The graduate transfer, who has one year of eligibility left, is trying to increase his draft stock and enter a situation where he has a chance to win.
Bridy was scheduled to visit Arizona State University before traveling to LSU, but later canceled that trip and rescheduled to visit Baton Rouge midweek.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder spent three seasons at Texas Tech before joining the Indiana Hoosiers. During his time with the Red Raiders, he appeared in 34 games and recorded 39 tackles, six tackles for loss, and two sacks.
Bridy, who played at Indiana University in 2023, appeared in 12 games and started 11, recording 30 tackles, four tackles for loss, two QB hurries and one pass breakup.
Now, his recruitment is going full steam ahead as he re-enters the transfer portal for his final season of eligibility.
LSU already committed defensive lineman Gio Paez, who transferred to Wisconsin this spring and will play his final season in Baton Rouge.
The Tigers brought in defensive line coach Bo Davis to change things up in the defensive line room. Now he faces the difficult task of renewing talent and adding depth. LSU currently has four Interior All defensive linemen on scholarship this spring, with reinforcements expected in the summer.
Davis, who has made one appointment through the portal so far, is scheduled to win and dine at Bridi during a midweek visit this week.
LSU head coach Brian Kelly said last week that he is analyzing LSU's defensive line room and looking at programs that can utilize its versatility up front to be effective this fall.
“You can move (defensive end) Bradyn Swinson to the inside, you can move Paris Shand to the inside, you can move Dashaun Womack to the edge, you can move (linebacker) Harold Perkins to the edge. It's a different configuration. I think some defensive linemen can run the team and be really dynamic. On first down and second down, they have to work really hard to get after the quarterback. But in terms of stopping that run. So, Jacobean Guillory was outstanding. In terms of what we want from Bo Davis, he was outstanding and a force. We've got to find another guy. That's what we're looking for. We're trying to develop a second player and have some depth behind them.”
