Three people have been arrested in connection with the death of Southern Miss football defensive back MJ Daniels, according to Hattiesburg police.
Orlando May, Allen Marcus Gardner and Samir Green were booked into the Forrest County Jail on Friday and all are charged with murder.
May, 18, of Hattiesburg, is also charged with one count of attempted carjacking, one count of felony fleeing and two counts of auto theft. Gardner, 17, of Houston, Texas, and Green, 16, of Hattiesburg, are both charged with one count of attempted armed carjacking.
Gardner and Green are being charged as adults.
Court Administrator Philip McSwain said the three are scheduled to make their initial court appearance Monday at 11 a.m. Hattiesburg police said the investigation is still ongoing.
Daniels, 21, was shot and killed near the University of Southern Mississippi campus on Tuesday, June 11. According to Hattiesburg Police, Daniels was found unconscious in his car and pronounced dead at the scene in the 6300 block of Highway 49.
Daniels is a senior defensive back from Lucedale, Mississippi. He was a three-sport star at George County High School before attending Ole Miss. After two seasons, he transferred to the University of Southern Mississippi and started as a cornerback. He moved to safety this season and is expected to start again.
