Thomas Keogh has been named the new head coach of the St. Peter's Prep men's ice hockey team.
Keough most recently spent six seasons as head coach at Bergen Catholic, amassing a 70-50-9 record and helping the team win Bergen County titles in 2020 and 2024.
He was relieved of his coaching duties near the end of March.
Keogh will take over a St. Peter's Prep program that has recorded just 21 wins and just three state tournament wins over the past five seasons.
The last time the team finished above .500 was in 2018, and this is the first time the program has accomplished that since 2015.
“We want to move them forward,” Keogh said. “Hopefully they have a bright future. That's our goal here. We want to get them on track and give them the best opportunity to compete for the top spot in the state.”
It was a very similar situation to when he took over as Bergen Catholic's coach before the start of the 2018-19 season.
The Crusaders had a record of 17-43-8 in the three seasons before Keogh took over.
“I think if they build some commitment within themselves and within the organization and coaching staff that they start to become, I think they'll be successful,” Keogh said. … “They need someone to steer them in the right direction and know what it takes to get to that level of opportunity to win and be a competitive piece within the Gordon (Conference).” “I need it.”
What we can look forward to next season is a St. Peter's Prep team that plays a hard-nosed brand of hockey that is tough on the puck, creates turnovers, and produces a lot of goals.
