Otto Wallin showed such overkill that he completely thrashed Onorio de Ewalieme on Friday night at the Tropicana in Atlantic City, beating him to a pulp in just 48 seconds. Wallin landed straight left punches with the grace of a wrecking ball, smashing Ewalieme so hard that Ewalieme forgot he was supposed to fight back.
In Brisbane, Justice Huni turned Fortitude Music Hall into a battleground of personal destruction, giving Troy Pilcher a harsh lesson in the art of the knockout. After some quirky dancing in the first round, Huni landed a body shot in the second that marked the beginning of the end for Pilcher. He then landed a powerful left hook that sent Pilcher to the corner, but the referee ended the bout with 40 seconds remaining.
The brutal fest continued in Los Angeles, where Boyle Heights native Omar Trinidad decided to speed up his bout with Victor Slabinski. From the start, Trinidad had Slabinski on the ropes like a fly on sticky paper. After a particularly vicious straight right that left Slabinski reeling and reconsidering his life decisions, a dramatic knockdown that required the referee to step in for a dramatic knockdown. Not one to like cliffhangers, Trinidad took Slabinski down again to seal the win, with the referee calling off the bout at 2 minutes, 31 seconds, putting an end to anyone's pretensions of uncertainty.
Meanwhile, in Florida, Jean-Paul Rivera became an educator, with a grueling seminar teaching how to break an unbeaten record. On this enlightening Friday at the Caribe Royale Resort, Rivera sent Justin Goodson to the canvas in the third round, a friendly preview of what was to come. By the seventh round, he had made his point not once but twice, and at 2 minutes, 43 seconds, the referee stepped in, presumably to stop Goodson from sending off a thank you note.
