Former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri) lashed out at an “activist” U.S. Supreme Court in disbelief after Monday's ruling on presidential immunity, calling the decision “adorned with federalism ramblings.”
McCain told MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace, along with other legal scholars, that the ruling was “egregious” and exonerated former President Donald Trump of the crimes he has been accused of.
At the beginning of her criticism, she points out logical and political arguments before the “anger'' argument.
“I want to believe that voters will understand that their powers, their freedoms have been taken away. Dobbs” said McCaskill. Roe v. Wade“This is a whole other level of court action to take power away from the people.”

“Now I’m angry,” McCaskill continued, before moving on to other opinions. “What nerve do you have to talk about these people being textualists! [Clarence] “On gun control, Thomas argued, there should be a clause in our founding documents about domestic violence. Our country was premised on making sure there was no king, and yet they did this.”
She was referring to a Supreme Court decision that agreed to confiscate firearms from people who have victim protection orders in place, a move Thomas opposed, saying the words “domestic violence” don't appear in the Constitution.
“The whole premise of our existence is to give power to the people, not the president,” McCaskill continued. “And that's why I'm so angry at these hypocrites. This is the most activist court I've ever seen. I've been a law student, I've been a lawyer my whole adult life. This is an activist court, an activist court above all else. And the idea that they're trying to dress this up in some kind of federalism drivel is that somehow they're not activists and they're not bending the law to their own political views.” [will]Well, that's horse hockey.”
She went on to say that she, too, is scared and called this a “critical moment” for the future of American democracy.
Wallace joked that McCain had “throw down the gauntlet,” forcing him to speak further.
The former senator recalled that several justices visited her Senate office and asked for her vote on the Supreme Court.
“I've heard Republicans, I've heard Yale and Harvard educated Republicans talking about how you can't get the court to rewrite the book. You can't do something that the Founding Fathers didn't want you to do, you can't get the court to legislate,” she explained. “Look what this court has done. It's complete bullshit.”
McCain said it was absurd to have a president who was “creeping away from his authority and power” during his presidency.
Trump, for example, “was not cool,” she said.
“He can't wait to tear down the Constitution and rob this country of the peaceful transfer of power,” she said. “He can't wait to find fake electors and do things that have never been thought of before in this country. He wasn't cool. He was going to try!”
Yet somehow the courts are using the idea that someone might “go cold turkey” to justify shielding Trump from prosecution.
“It's crazy. That's why I say they're making this up. They're just making this up,” she concluded.
