The martial arts series Garouden has finally been adapted into an anime on Netflix, 39 years after the novel's debut.
The synopsis for Netflix's series titled Garouden: Lone Wolf and Lone Wolf reads, “Running from a troubled past, Juzo is forced to participate in a dangerous underground fighting tournament. A master of the Takemiya style, Juzo has a 3 million yen bounty on his head and must navigate a path filled with formidable enemies and his personal demons, all while dealing with a detective pursuing him. Please register.
There's plenty of martial arts to be seen in the trailer, which you can watch above. As the streamer points out, the show captures the moves of a variety of martial artists, including boxing, karate, sumo, wrestling, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, for added realism. This has certainly been shown so far.
Garouden began as a series of novels by Baku Yumemakura, with the first 13 volumes published between 1985 and 2003. Subsequently, it was made into a manga by Jiro Taniguchi in 1989 and serialized until 1990, and from 1996, a second manga was made by Keisuke Itagaki and serialized. In addition to these, prequel and sequel stories, feature films, and his two video games were released. However, the Netflix show will be the first to be adapted into an anime.
Netflix has had great success with animated features in the past. For example, the live-action version of One Piece was a success, and a second season of One Piece has been decided.
