Can you smell college football in the air?
That time of year is almost here, Seminole fans. We're just nine weeks away from when Florida State takes on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Dublin, Ireland on August 24th.
It's funny how time flies. After the College Football Playoff Committee decided not to give the Seminoles a chance to play for the national championship, the Seminoles are looking to prove the doubters wrong.
It will be PTSD for the program for a while, but head football coach Mike Norvell and the team must find a way to turn the page and move forward toward a special 2024 season for Florida State.
The Seminoles are only 56% back from last season's performance, and we won't be seeing Jordan Travis, Trey Benson, Johnny Wilson, Keion Coleman, Jaheim Bell, Jared Barth, Braden Fisk, Fabian Lovett Sr., Tatum Bethune, Cullen DeLoach, Renaldo Green, Jarrian Jones or Akeem Dent heading down the tunnel again.
But Florida State has made good use of the transfer portal, and the Seminoles have several key returning players from last year still on the roster.
With Florida State football returning in nine weeks, we thought it would be appropriate to feature two players wearing the No. 9 jersey on the Seminoles’ roster: redshirt senior running back Lawrence Toafili and redshirt sophomore linebacker Omar Graham Jr.
The Seminoles added Alabama's Roydell Williams and Indiana's Jaylin Lucas through the transfer portal, but Toafili is something of a forgotten presence in Florida State's offense, and the ACC Championship Game MVP will be looking to showcase his versatility in his final season in Tallahassee.
As for Omar Graham Jr., he was plagued by injuries in 2023 but persevered, playing all 14 games and recording 23 total tackles. The linebacker position has players like Alabama's Sean Murphy and Auburn's Cam Riley, who joined the team via the transfer portal this offseason, as well as DJ Lundy, Blake Nichelson and Justin Cryer, but Graham Jr. has a chance to make a splash in 2024.
