The 2024 NBA Draft will have a new format and will be a two-day event, with the first round taking place on June 26 at 8 pm ET. After the first 30 selections, the NBA will give teams a chance to catch their breath before the second round, which has historically been full of upsets and missed picks on television.
The delay could make the top pick in the second round even more popular as teams reshuffle their big boards with available players, potentially creating a bigger payoff for teams that trade away their selections.
The Toronto Raptors hold the 31st pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and, according to The Athletic's Sam Vecenie, many believe they could receive “serious offers overnight.”
“There's also a lot of expectation around the league that Toronto will jump to the top of the draft order on Thursday and potentially receive serious offers overnight for the No. 31 pick from teams wanting to select the top player remaining. Essentially, no team in that range can offer a player and his agent anything resembling a guarantee of the status quo,” Veceny said.
While second-round picks swapping hands is nothing new, a fresh look at the best players remaining will likely see more organizations looking to move up the ranks, which will drive up prices.
