This year’s Southwest Virginia girls soccer season showcased the talents of some of the best players across the state and culminated with a local team winning not once, but twice, the state championship in their hometown stadium.
Here is the Roanoke Times 2024 All-Timesland girls soccer team, highlighting the student-athletes who excelled on the field this spring.
Coach of the Year: Kylie Drew, Glenvar

In his third year as head coach, Drew has led the Highlanders to an undefeated season that was capped off with a dramatic shootout win in the Class 2 state championship game against Clark County, which had beaten Glenvar 6-0 in the state semifinals a year earlier.

Led by Coach Drew, who scored his 100th goal at Glenvar, the Highlanders outscored opponents 120-10 and posted a 20-0 record with one tie, including Region 2C and Three Rivers District championships. Their only win was a 1-1 tie against Class 5 Franklin County.
Drew was named Class 2 Coach of the Year and coached four players who received All-State selections.
Player of the Year: Juliana “Jules” Stanley, Glenvar

Heather Rousseau, The Roanoke Times
The senior striker was a key contributor to the Highlanders winning their second state championship in the past three years, scoring 47 goals and adding 10 assists to lead the team to an undefeated season.
Stanley, who finished his high school career with 131 goals, was named Class 2 Player of the Year and also won Region 2C and Three Rivers District Player of the Year honors.
Erin Bishop, Blacksburg
The junior forward has recorded 22 goals and 14 assists this season, leading the Bruins to a 17-2-2 record, including an unbeaten 10-0-2 run in the River Ridge District and a berth in the Class 4 state quarterfinals.
Bishop was named to the All-State Second Team and All-Region First Team and was the top vote-getter on the All-District team.
Emma Rice, Lord Botetourt
The VMI signee scored 38 goals this season and added eight assists, leading the Cavaliers to a 15-7-0 record and a berth in the Class 3 state quarterfinals.
Rice, a senior striker, surpassed 100 career goals this spring and was named first-team all-state, as well as Region 3D and Blue Ridge District player of the year.
Katie Wright, Auburn

The senior midfielder recorded 49 goals and 16 assists this spring, leading the Eagles to a 19-4-0 record, including an unbeaten 13-0-0 run in the Mountain Empire District and a Class 1 state championship.
Wright was a key part of Auburn's dominant performance in the state tournament, outscoring their opponents 21-3 over three matches, and was named Class 1 Player of the Year for her performance.
Gabriella Carnevali, The Fountain of the Cave

Described by head coach Erin Smith as “the anchor and glue of the team,” the freshman midfielder scored 12 goals and dished out 17 assists to lead a thriving Knights team to a 13-5 record, two ties and a Region 3D championship, as well as their first state tournament appearance in 17 years.
Carnevali was named to the All-State second team as well as being named to the All-Region and All-District first teams.
Davin Tate, Glenvar
The junior midfielder recorded 28 assists and scored 15 goals to power the team's offense and play a key role in the Highlanders' undefeated season and state championship win.
Tate was named to the Class 2 state, Region 2C and Three Rivers District first teams.
Kailyn Brawley, Blacksburg

The veteran defender was the leader of a Bruins backline that allowed just six goals all year and recorded 17 shutouts.
Brawley, who added two goals and one assist, was named to the All-State First Team and was also named to the All-Region and All-District First Teams.
Nadia Hosny, North Cross
The senior was moved to center back to protect the inexperienced goalkeeper and helped the Raiders win six of their final nine games after starting the season with three wins, three losses and no draws.
Offensively, Hosny recorded five goals and seven assists. Her performance earned her first team all-state and all-conference honors.
Megan Pomerleau, Glenvar

While the Highlanders made waves on offense, the senior defender was a key part of Glenvar's backline, allowing just 10 goals in 22 games, keeping 14 shutouts and holding Clark County scoreless for 100 minutes in the Class 2 state title game.
Pomerleau was named to the first team all-state, as well as first team all-region and all-district.
Paige Miller, Blacksburg
The senior keeper allowed just two goals during the regular season and just six goals all year, recording 17 clean sheets while leading the Bruins to the state tournament.
Miller was named to the Class 4 All-State Goalkeeper First Team and was also named to the All-Region First Team and All-District Second Team.
