The early over/under win totals for the 2024 college football season were released earlier this season. As for Virginia Tech, the initial over/under win total was 7.5, which was very appealing for bettors.
Many over/under win numbers have been updated since spring practice and the spring games concluded, but honestly, the Hokies' updated numbers from one betting site still look like a good bet.
DraftKings updated their over/under win numbers for the 2024 season, increasing Virginia Tech's chances of winning from 7.5 to 8. Even though the number went up half a game, it still looks like a good bet. First, if you bet on the over, you need the Hokies to win 9 games. Still, it looks solid.
Why does it look solid? First, as we all know, head coach Brent Pry and his staff retained a ton of players from last season's team, primarily on offense with quarterback Kyron Draughns, running back Beischul Teuthen and the four wide receivers who return along with the offensive line. Defensively, they also retained a ton of players, along with some key additions through the transfer portal.
Another reason eight or more wins seem a certainty is Virginia Tech's schedule. The ACC is without Louisville, NC State or Florida State, all of which lost three conference games last season. They have tough road games at Miami and Syracuse and a home game against Clemson in November. After that, they have games against Boston College, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Duke and Stanford. They also have a viable non-conference schedule, including road games at Vanderbilt and Old Dominion and home games against Marshall and Rutgers.
Nine wins is very much within reach, making the over a good bet, and it wouldn't be a surprise if the Hokies reach 10 wins.
