MADRID (AP) — The Netherlands bounced back from a shaky first half to give Scotland a clinical soccer masterclass and win a 4-0 friendly in Amsterdam on Friday.
The Netherlands took the lead in the 40th minute when Tijani Lijnders scored from 25 meters from time to go. Georginio Wijnaldum doubled the score in the 72nd minute when he headed in a cross from Cody Gakpo.
Substitute Wout Weghorst made it 3-0 with a header in the 84th minute, and Donyell Malen broke through the defense to score the fourth goal two minutes later.
This was a bitter lesson for Scotland in the need to take chances. Scotland played a long game against the hosts and hit the woodwork twice.
Mark Frecken hit Ryan Christie's diving header against the crossbar early in the match, and Lawrence Shankland, who was starting his second international game at 1-0, should have just beaten the keeper to score. .
Scotland will face hosts Germany in their opening game of the European Championship in Munich on June 14th. The Netherlands are in Group D, in the same group as France, Austria and the winner of the Poland-Wales play-off.
Spain, European champions in 1964, 2008 and 2012, are among the favorites to win the Euros, but they were taught a lesson by Colombia in a friendly at the London Stadium.
The crowd of enthusiastic pro-Colombia fans watched as Daniel Muñoz scored the only goal after 61 minutes. James Rodriguez passed to Luis Diaz on the right and his cross was volleyed home by a Crystal Palace defender.
The win extends Colombia's unbeaten streak to 20 games, which also includes wins over Germany, Brazil and Mexico.
It was Spain's first loss in almost a year. Luis de la Fuente's side are in Group B alongside Italy, Albania and Croatia.
Hungary, Chile and Czech Republic all won
Hungary extended their unbeaten run to 13 games with a 1-0 victory over fellow Euro 2024 qualifier Turkey. Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai scored the only goal from the penalty spot three minutes into the second half.
The Czech Republic defeated Norway 2-1 in Oslo. Oskar Bobb put Norway ahead after 20 minutes, but David Zima equalized and Antonin Barak grabbed the winner with five minutes remaining.
The Czech Republic will be playing at the Euros for the eighth consecutive year, in Group F alongside Portugal, Turkey and the winner of the Georgia-Greece play-off.
Romania, who will face Belgium, Slovakia, Ukraine or Iceland in Group E, came from behind to beat Northern Ireland 1-1 in Bucharest.
Jamie Reid scored in the seventh minute on his debut for Northern Ireland, but Romania equalized 15 minutes later when Conor Hazard deflected a shot from Dennis Mann.
Albania, who will face Spain, Croatia and Italy in Group B, lost 3-0 to Chile in Parma, Italy.
Veteran striker Eduardo Vargas took the lead after 19 minutes, and goals from Marco Borados and Victor Davila in the second half capped off a great night for the South American team.
