According to reports, the Hoter family received suspended sentences on Monday for financial fraud involving their club, Mulhouse Olympic Swimming Club (MON), and are likely to avoid prison time by being placed on probation.
Lionel Horterformer coach of two-time Olympic champion Yannick Agnelreceived a one-year suspended sentence and was banned from running a company for two years. Lionel was found guilty of collecting $79,000 in illegal fees and seizing a Land Rover owned by the club. Agnel was indicted in 2021 for sexually assaulting Lionel's daughter in 2016 when she was 13 and he was 24. An investigation found that several MON executives knew about Agnel's intimate relationship with the victim, but the trial in his case is still ongoing.
President MON Frank Holter He was given an eight-month suspended sentence for creating false invoices totalling $265,000. His mother Marie Octavi Horterescaped punishment for breach of trust related to expense report items valued at approximately $600.
Marjorie HouseworthThe wife of Lionel Hoter was given a two-year ban from running a company and a 10-month suspended sentence after a court in eastern France found she misappropriated more than $280,000 into a consulting firm owned by her husband and his brother-in-law.
MON was also charged with fraud for acts dating back to 2014 and 2016. The Horter family was due to relinquish control of the MON pool on Jan. 31, 2022, following a financial audit last year.
