WBO Junior Welterweight Champion “The Takeover” Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) defeated Steve “The Dragon” Claggett (38-8-2, 26 KOs) by unanimous decision over 12 rounds on Saturday night at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Florida. Claggett applied intense pressure while Teofimo landed the sharper punches. Lopez was dominant in every round but was unable to stop the rugged Claggett. Scores: 120-108, 120-108, 119-109.
Former world champion Robbie “Robbie” Ramirez (14-2, 9 KOs) is coming off a seventh-round knockout win over Brandon “Leon” Benitez (21-3, 9 KOs). Ramirez’s uppercut put Benitez down in 2 minutes, 46 seconds. Ramirez could face WBO champion Rafael Espinoza, who dethroned him in December.
Middleweight prospect Niko “Ali” Walsh (11-1, 5 KOs) avenged his only professional loss with a six-round unanimous decision over Sona Akhare (9-2, 4 KOs). Ali Walsh overcame a dislocated shoulder to win by knocking Akhare down in the third round. Scores: 58-55, 57-56, 57-56.
Unbeaten junior welterweight Emiliano Vargas (11-0, 9 KOs) defeated Jose Zaragoza (9-9-2, 3 KOs) in the first round after attacking Zaragoza until the bout was stopped.
Junior welterweight Elvis “The Dominican Kid” Rodriguez (16-1-1, 13 KOs) defeated Gino Rodrigo (12-4-2, 10 KOs) by unanimous decision in 10 rounds. Rodrigo knocked Rodriguez out in the first round but was taken down by Rodriguez late in the first round. Rodriguez won the bout 98-91, 98-91, 97-92.
