On Friday morning, Virginia Tech football officially began spring baseball with the first of 15 practices during the offseason.
Enthusiasm was at an all-time high when players and coaches had the opportunity to train at the Steve Johnson Practice Facility and the Beamer-Lawson Practice Facility.
He enters his third year leading the program as head coach. Brent Pry Our staff has new processes in place for spring practice.
“We changed a few things with the start of spring ball,” Pry said earlier in the week. “We're going to fight hard and hard, but it won't be that long at first. It'll be a warm-up period for a full two hours and 20 minutes of practice.”
The first practice sessions primarily focused on player development, including technique, scheme responsibility, and conditioning. The roster's talent was showcased in various competition segments during practice.
The offense displayed fast-paced run plays that showed glimpses of speed in the skill positions, while the defense displayed explosiveness and the ability to fly around the field.
Evaluating student-athletes is an important area of the process, and a similar sentiment was echoed in Friday's post-practice media availability by safeties coaches. Pearson Prioleau.
“We have a long way to go, but that's the fun part about spring: coming out here and taking it one day at a time,” Prioleau said. “We can evaluate the players and evaluate the players as we prepare.”
Tech will return to the practice field Saturday morning for the first live contact period on Thursday, March 21st.
