At 3-over par, the Utes hold a one-shot lead over Georgia (564, +4), who were tied for the lead after the opening round. The Dons are tied for third with Tennessee at 565 (+5).
Host Stanford is fifth with 566 (+6), followed by the Yellow Jackets in sixth with 567 (+7). Pepperdine (569, +9), Clemson and UCLA (both 573, +13) are in the top 10 of his 31 teams.
personal leaderboard – Georgia's Ben Van Wyk shot a 3-under 67 on Friday to take the 36-hole lead at 4-under 136. That was one stroke behind Utah's Braxton Watts, who had the lowest round of the day with a 4-under 66. He finished 36 holes with a score of 3 under and 137.
Pepperdine University's Christopher Kvass and William Walsh are tied for third with UCLA's Pablo Eleno at 138 (-2). Stanford's Michael Thorbjornsen is part of his six-man tie for sixth place at 139 (-1).
Tournament information – Georgia Tech will be appearing at Goodwin for the fourth time, finishing second to Oklahoma in last year's tournament, with Christo Lamprecht earning individual runner-up honors. The event, named after legendary head coach Wally Goodwin, who led the Cardinal program from 1987 to 2000, takes place on one of the nation's elite courses and is headquartered at TPC Harding Park. The school will host the event for the third time in its history. TPC Harding Park has been the venue for numerous PGA Tour events, including the 2009 Presidents Cup and his 2020 PGA Championship. TPC Harding Park is set up as a 6,939 yard, par 70 layout.
The format is a traditional 54-hole tournament with 18 holes each day from Thursday to Saturday, with the lowest four points out of five each day counting towards the team's total.
The field is the largest team the Yellow Jackets play all year, including Appalachian State, BYU (43), California (19), Cal Baptist, Cal Davis, Cal Poly, Clemson, Colorado and Georgia (22). 31 teams including: Georgia Tech (15), Howard, Lipscomb, Little Rock, Long Beach State (48), Nevada, Oregon (25), Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Diego, San Diego State (29), San Jose State, San Francisco, Santa Clara; Southern California, Stanford (44), Tennessee (7), TCU, UCLA (33), Utah, Utah Tech, Washington State.
Host Stanford University has won the tournament 16 times since the inaugural edition in 1968. Past individual winners include major golf champions Tom Watson and Corey Pavin, as well as veteran PGA Tour pros such as Duffy Waldorf and Billy Mayfair, and young professionals such as Nick Taylor and Patrick.
