The world war between Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor — and the social media posts — continues after the scheduled main event of Saturday's UFC 303 event was canceled.
McGregor recently revealed that a broken toe was the reason he was out of the fight and the event. Shortly after disclosing his injury, McGregor posted a meme about Chandler, mocking the former Bellator champion for saying he would appear at UFC 303 despite not being in the fight, saying he “promised” it.
On Sunday morning, Chandler slammed McGregor after the former two-division champion attended Saturday's Bellator Dublin event at the 3Arena, the same venue where a promotional press conference for the planned fight was cancelled earlier this month.
“Speaking of attending events… I was glad to finally be at 3Arena, where the press conference was supposed to be held. [June 3]”Awesome. Who's the Bellator Tick now?” Chandler said.
McGregor appeared at the event to corner teammate Sinead Kavanagh, who had been submitted by Arlene Blencowe in the second round. After the fight, Dan Hardy interviewed McGregor in the cage before Blencowe, and the broadcast focused on McGregor throughout the remainder of the event.
Chandler now finds himself in an interesting position: Will he continue to wait for McGregor, who has been on the sidelines since losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281 in November 2022, or will he move on from his fellow coach for the 2023 season of The Ultimate Fighter?
McGregor is targeting an August or September return, but due to the UFC schedule it is unclear when the fight will be rescheduled.
