BOSTON (AP) — Andrei Svechnikov led the way with a lacrosse-style goal and the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Boston Bruins 4-1 on Tuesday night.
Svechnikov, who also had an assist, caught the puck with his stick blade and sent it into the net midway through the second period, surprising goaltender Jeremy Swayman. This was his 19th goal of the season.
Teuvo Teravainen, Jake Guentzel and Seth Jarvis also scored as the Hurricanes won their third straight game and fifth in their last six games. Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 22 shots.
The Hurricanes reached 50 wins and are now three points behind the New York Rangers for first place in the Metropolitan Division and Eastern Conference.
Charlie McAvoy scored the Bruins' only goal, ending their winning streak at four. Boston leads the Atlantic Division with a record of 46 wins, 18 losses, and 15 losses with three games remaining. Swayman finished with 22 saves.
After splitting the first two games of the season, the Hurricanes won the season series, dominating the Bruins at home, outscoring Boston 15-6 in the second game, and McAvoy pulled the Bruins to within 2-1 late in the season. After that, he controlled most of the third game. Second term.
Carolina begins a four-game road trip that concludes the Hurricanes' regular season schedule.
