JAMESTOWN – It's a big opportunity for Jamestown graduates.
Former Blue Jay player Luke Stilwell has been named the new head coach of Jamestown High School boys hockey.
Stilwell, who served as an assistant coach for the Jays last season, is a 2013 junior high school graduate who played at Concordia-Moorhead University. Before returning to Jamestown, Stilwell coached at Williston High School and was a teacher at Bakken Elementary School in Williston. He currently serves as his 6th grade science teacher at Jamestown Middle School.
Jamestown High School Athletic Director Jim Roaldson said in a press release. He brings many different experiences and influences to this position.
Serve him well. A student of the game, he will strive to improve his individual and team skills while focusing on building a positive team culture in the locker room. ”
Stilwell replaces Matt Stockert, who spent 20 seasons as the Blue Jays' head coach. Jamestown went 11-13-0 in the 2023-24 season, losing to Bismarck Century in the state qualifying game of the West Regional Tournament. In the 2021-22 season, Stockert led the Blue Jays to their first West Division championship since 1995 and was named Coach of the Year. Jamestown finished fifth in the state tournament that season.
