Game 7 was officially decided this evening, with the Dallas Stars defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 2-1. The Colorado Avalanche begin their series next week in Dallas, where they will face the Stars in the second round.
It will be a thrilling showdown between arguably the two best teams of the year in the Central Division. This is a rematch of the 2020 second round series these two faced in the Bubble Stanley Cup Playoffs in Edmonton. The less said about this series, the better.
This will be the sixth time the Abs have faced the Stars in the postseason, tying them with the Detroit Red Wings for the most against a single opponent in the playoffs. Colorado will be looking to avenge its Game 7 loss in 2020, and will play Dallas in the postseason for the first time since then. But they now have the Stars' secret weapon on the team in Joel Kiviranta.
The Abs went 3-1 against Dallas in the regular season, losing once in April when both teams were battling for top spot in the Central Division. Otherwise, the Avalanche were the No. 1 Stars in wins with a record of 6-3, 5-4, and 5-1 before losing 7-4 in the final week of the regular season.
It should be a very fun matchup with two solid teams. That will be a tough challenge for both teams, especially for the Avs, who will be back on the road. They will need a similar effort from their first-round game against the Winnipeg Jets to reach their second Western Conference Finals in three years.
Games 1 and 2 will be played in Dallas on Tuesday and Thursday nights, respectively. Games 3 and 4 in Denver will be played Saturday night and Monday night, respectively. Once again, bring your loyal fans to a fun long weekend of shows in the Mile High City. Tomorrow we'll bring you a series preview for a classic playoff matchup.
