This is his second year as an NAHL head coach.
CROCKETT, Minn. – After a successful opening season as head coach of the Minnesota Wilderness, Colten St. Clair is poised for more wins in the 2024-25 season.
The Wilderness narrowly qualified for the playoffs last season after winning 30 of 60 regular season games, and St. Clair said he was contacted by teams during the offseason, but he planned to stay with the Wilderness.
“I love this organization, they've given me the opportunity to be my first head coach and, obviously, that's what I want for my own development,” said St. Clair, who was previously the associate head coach for the USHL's Sioux City Musketeers. “I think there's some unfinished business from last year and, of course, teams will reach out to me in the offseason and ask what their plans are, but (I'm) really excited to see what kind of personnel we have as players.”
St. Clair said he's taken ample notes during his tenure on what areas he wants his team to improve on the ice heading into this season.
“Obviously, there are some things we need to improve on from last year, some things we did really well and some things we want to build on,” he said. “For me, it's just a matter of going back with my staff and evaluating those things and what's important to us. Obviously, it's a new team this year, so some of the things that worked last year might not work this year.”
Coach St. Clair and the Wilderness front office have been spending this week evaluating prospects at the team's main camp at the team's home ice rink.
