Leon Draisaitl…to the San Jose Sharks?
Honestly, that sounds really realistic to me.
But what if not just one, but two NHL officials are openly speculating about it?
Well, at least it's a fun offseason story.
“Do you think Draisaitl will go to San Jose because the owner is German?” ESPN's Greg Wiszynski asked at about the 28 minute mark on today's “Jeff Marek Show.” “Have you ever heard of that?”
“It's been whispered about for a while,” Marek replied.
Besides German owner Hasso Plattner, Wyszynski listed the following reasons why Draisaitl, who will become a UFA after the 2024-25 season, is interested in the San Jose Sharks. They will obviously compensate him. ”
“People have been speculating about it for at least a year, maybe longer,” Malek said.
So please note that this is pure speculation.
Oddly enough, Marek and I were listening to Draisaitl and the Sharks as we walked through the back room where 200 hockey players were hanging out… https://t.co/GxuBBgZPhT

The 28-year-old superstar's schedule doesn't seem to align with the rebuilding San Jose Sharks, but the 2020 Hart Trophy winner, who has eclipsed both 40 goals and 100 points five times, will play for the San Jose Sharks. There is no doubt that he will be a dream addition for the Sharks. No matter what team's lineup.
And if Draisaitl wants it, the centerman could become a $100 million man when he becomes a free agent in the summer of 2025, joining teammate Connor McDavid in 2017 for eight years. He could become the third person in the past 10 years to win $100 million. and Nathan McKinnon, 8 years, $108 million in 2022.
On the other hand, if Draisaitl's Stanley Cup-seeking Edmonton Oilers lost to the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 in the second round of the series, both Wisinski and Marek called Oil Country “the most chaotic… I think there is a possibility that there will be an off-season.
If that means Edmonton tries to trade Draisaitl this summer — playoff win or loss, I honestly don't know why they would do that — they probably have a lot of There will be suitors, and rebuilding San Jose will likely be out of the bidding. The Sharks' best hope for Draisaitl, if such a longshot can be called a “hope”, will likely be via free agency.
A lot of dots would need to be connected to land Draisaitl to the San Jose Sharks, but until Edmonton or another team extends him, the rumor mill has already begun surrounding the 2025 star free agent. It seems like it is.
