COLUMBIA — Philadelphia-based clothing company Mitchell & Ness has created a line of jerseys honoring the 2004 U.S. women's basketball team, and on Tuesday it celebrated by having star point guard Dawn Staley greet fans at its Philadelphia store.
The South Carolina women's basketball coach was one of four players on the 2004 U.S. Olympic team, and her jersey is available for purchase. The collection also includes jerseys from Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoopes and Tamika Catchings, as well as shorts. The company's items can be purchased on its website. The jerseys are priced at $135.
Staley, a Philadelphia native, greeted fans at the flagship store on Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m.
After the event, she wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Had a great time in Philly. Lots of love from Dobbins high school and the PA State Senators. Thank you! Met the amazing people from Mitchell & Ness and had friends from Philadelphia and WBB come by! Thank you for all the incredible love…I'm full!”
Staley has competed in three Summer Olympics, in 1996, 2000 and 2004. August marks the 20th anniversary of the team's gold medal win.
On March 10, 2017, Staley was named coach of the United States Basketball women's national team through the Tokyo Olympics, where she led the United States to a seventh consecutive Olympic gold medal. Staley was also named the 2018 USA Basketball Coach of the Year.
