Sophia Smith scored in the 64th minute to help the United States avenge a loss to Mexico earlier this year with a 1-0 win in the rematch on Saturday.
The friendly at Red Bull Arena was the first of two warm-up matches for the U.S. ahead of the Paris Olympics, where the U.S. will face Costa Rica on Tuesday at Audi Field in Washington before departing for France.
Mexico beat the United States for the second time in the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup in late February, with goals from Lisbeth Ovalle and Mayra Pelayo giving Mexico a 2-0 victory.
The United States had the most chances in the first half but couldn't break through. Smith, Lindsey Horan and Sam Coffey all had shots in the mix in front of the Mexican goal before half-time but failed to score.
But in the second half, Trinity Rodman passed to Mallory Swanson, who appeared ready to shoot but instead passed to Smith for her 20th career goal. Smith nearly scored a second goal in the 73rd minute, but her shot hit the near post.
The U.S. has not conceded a goal in three games under new coach Emma Hayes.
The game was a 25th anniversary celebration of the 1999 Women's World Cup-winning team, “The Nineteeners,” at the Rose Bowl. It marked the first time all 20 players from that team had reunited.
U.S. captain Alyssa Naher was honored on the field before the match to mark her 100th appearance for the national team. Naher earned her national team cap in March.
Lynn Williams entered the game in the 75th minute. Williams was originally one of four substitutes on the U.S. Olympic team of 18, but forward Catalina Macario cannot play in France because of knee inflammation. Hayes announced the substitution on Friday.
Cloix Bethune made his debut for the United States in the 81st minute.
