BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) – Diego Maradonachildren filed a petition in an Argentine court on Thursday asking for the former soccer great's body to be moved to a “safer location” and for fans to “pay their respects” at the mausoleum. Ta.
Maradona's remains are kept in a private cemetery on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, where they were brought in a large funeral procession in November 2020. Only family members are allowed to enter the cemetery.
The mausoleum, known as the Memorial del Diez, is located behind Casa Rosada, Argentina's government headquarters, and will be open to the public, Veronica Ojeda, the mother of Maradona's youngest son, told local media. Ta.
A memorandum signed by Dalma Maradona and Gianinna Maradona submitted to the court states: “All the heirs, by common agreement, will seek their next destination of eternal rest in a much safer place than the present one ( …).''On behalf of Ojeda diego maradona jr..
“And so that all Argentines and all peoples of the world may pay homage to our father, who was Argentina's greatest idol.”
One of the family's lawyers told reporters that the move is expected to take place around October 30, the 1986 World Cup-winning Argentina international's birthday.
Maradona died of a heart attack in November 2020 at the age of 60. Fans of Napoli and the Argentina national team worshiped him as a “god of football”.
