BELLE GRADE, Fla. — The spring football season is coming to a close, but before that, many South Florida teams will take to the field to compete.
Glades Central welcomed several local teams to the jamboree before the summer break.
Teams like Port St. Lucie, Park Vista, and Wellington headed west to see how things were going for the fall season.
Park Vista's new head coach, Donald Hanna, was the defensive coordinator last season. He said he is excited to take over the main headset.
“The weight room and offseason program are very important, but it has to correlate with the field,” Hanna said. “So tonight is a chance to see how directly our offseason program correlates to X's and O's and execution on the football field.”
Port St. Lucie head coach Kimberly Rubin said these scrimmages give players a chance to see live snaps.
“This is really important because they're tired of telling each other,” Rubin said. “Right now we have a chance to play someone other than ourselves. Overall, they're really going for it.”
In Wellington, the Wolverines look to bounce back from a two-win season heading into the summer.
“We really hope we face a little bit of adversity here today,” Wellington football coach Ross Pryor said. “Trying to be better, competing, trying to attack someone else for change.”
For Glades Central, hosting this event provides an opportunity for this team and community to rally around the school.
“I'm very excited. It's a whole new era,” said Gray's Central head coach. Omar Haugabook Said. “It's about getting our community, our fans, and all of our alumni to have our backs, because if they have our backs, we can do great things. So we're bringing it back here. It was huge for me to be able to do that, because I want to get that spirit back.
