A West Coast rap legend wants Warriors star Klay Thompson to take his talents to Los Angeles.
In an interview on “The Stephen A. Smith Show,” Snoop Dogg revealed that the four-time NBA champion, who is set to become a free agent next month, hopes to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers this summer.
Snoop Dogg told Smith, “I'm hopeful that we can get Klay Thompson. His father is Mychal and he works for the Lakers. It's going to be easy from here.”
Despite Golden State GM Mike Dunleavy making clear the team's desire to keep Thompson, the Warriors veteran has reportedly been linked to the Orlando Magic, while Dunleavy is in the Bay Area. claims there is a “mutual” desire to remain in the country.
Thompson was benched in February, averaging 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in his 11th NBA season, leading Snoop Dogg to believe the 34-year-old guard was no longer part of coach Steve Kerr's system. This gave me reason to believe that it was not a major part.
“So he doesn't fit in with them anymore. They're trying to disrespect him,” Snoop Dogg added. He needs to be on a team where he can perform to the best of his ability, and we want him to show that.
“Right now he's fighting for the ball. And that's not what he's doing.”
If Thompson signs a contract extension with the Warriors this summer, Kerr will likely use his splash brother as a key role player. Whether Thompson accepts it next season will be a different story.
But according to Snoop Dogg, that's not Thompson's dilemma in Los Angeles.
Once again, Thompson has become one of the most decorated players on this year's free agent market, and the legendary rapper is known to be an avid Lakers fan.
