After news broke on Monday that Klay Thompson was heading to Dallas, it didn't take long for some people to start making some interesting comments on social media.
Of course, Skip Bayless was one to weigh in, arguing that if Thompson had been on the Dallas roster, the Mavericks would have beaten the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals.
Bayless noted that Thompson will be significantly better than Dallas guard Tim Hardaway Jr., who averaged just 12 minutes per game in the four Finals games and went scoreless in three of them.
By comparison, Thompson has shot 39.8% from 3-point range in 33 career NBA Finals games and has never been held scoreless in the playoffs, much less the Finals. Thompson played in the Warriors' Western Conference play-in game against the Kings last season, and he easily surpassed Hardaway's regular-season total for 2023-24.
It remains to be seen whether the Splash Brothers did enough to overturn the Celtics' 4-1 series victory, but they almost certainly would have been better than the Mavericks' dismal 31.6 percent 3-point shooting in the Finals.
Of course, Bayless also had to end his post with a dig at Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. The 49ers can only hope that a multi-sport Bay Area-to-Dallas pipeline doesn't happen.
