After Thursday night's blowout win over the Miami Heat, the Philadelphia 76ers announced new roster moves.
The Sixers have signed veteran Jeff Dowtin Jr. to a standard NBA contract, according to Daryl Morey, the team's president of basketball operations. Dowtin will now remain with the 76ers for the remainder of the 2023-2024 NBA season, qualifying for the playoffs.
Dowtin has been with the Sixers in some capacity since November, but didn't officially join the team in early March. After playing for several months with the Sixers' NBA G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, Dowtin signed a two-way contract with the Sixers.
Unlike most two-way players, Dowtin has multiple seasons of experience. He got his start in the G League after going undrafted in 2020. Dowtin signed a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors during the 2021 season.
Dowtin's next NBA experience will be in 2022, when he joins the Milwaukee Bucks on a 10-day contract. After that expired, he also joined the Orlando Magic on a temporary contract.
One move that would have better prepared Dowtin for his future would have been the opportunity to join the Toronto Raptors last season. At the time, the Raptors' head coach was Nick Nurse.
After the 2022-2023 season, Nurse and the Raptors parted ways. While Nurse was in his first season as the Sixers' head coach, he reunited with Dowtin. So far, Dowtin has appeared in seven games with Philadelphia.
During his time with the Sixers, Dowtin averaged 12 minutes on the floor. During that time, he drained 55% of his shots and recorded his 4.4 points per game. With the Delaware Blue Coats' season coming to a close, Dowtin will have the opportunity to rejoin the 76ers for the final regular season. Dowtin has signed a standard contract, meaning he will remain with the team with an eye on a potential playoff berth.
