Simone Biles competed on the balance beam at the U.S. Olympic Team Gymnastics Trials at Target Center.
Simone Biles earned a spot in her third Olympic Games after earning a total score of 117.225 points at the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials in Minneapolis, which concluded Sunday night.
Biles made her Olympic debut in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, winning four gold medals and one bronze, before winning a silver and bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the Tokyo Olympics, Biles withdrew from the women's individual all-around final to focus on her mental health, which she said has been helped by seeing a therapist every Thursday as she prepares for Paris.
“I knew after Tokyo I wasn't done,” Biles told NBC, “so I just got back in the gym, worked hard and trusted the process. … I knew I'd be back.”
Joining Biles on the U.S. women's gymnastics team were Sunisa Lee and Jordan Childs, who placed second and third, respectively, in the team trials, with Lee earning 111.675 points and Childs earning 111.425 points.
Jade Carey (111.350) and Hesly Rivera (111.150) also finished in the top five, securing their spots at the Paris Olympics.
No. 6 Jocelyn Roberson and No. 7 Lianne Wong will compete as alternates on the road.
