Kayla DiCello will miss the remainder of the Trials due to an Achilles injury
Disello injured her Achilles tendon during the vault and will miss the remaining qualifying rounds, USAG confirmed after the competition.
She fell during vault and was removed in a wheelchair at the start of Friday night's competition.
The injury put her Olympic hopes on hold; DiCello was an alternate for the Tokyo Olympics but did not compete.
The extent of Jones' injury is unclear. She hurt her knee while landing on the vault during warmups and missed every event in the competition except for the balance beam, where her score remains her highest score heading into Sunday's final.
Paris Olympic team to be announced within 48 hours
This concludes the first day of the women's Olympic gymnastics trials. The Olympic team will be announced after another day of competition on Sunday.
Olympians top the standings on Day 2
Friday's competition took an unexpected and heartbreaking turn even before it began airing, but the final result was far from shocking and the Tokyo Olympic team is looking forward to returning to the Games.
Simone Biles took the lead with a total score of 58.900 despite a risky balance beam routine. Her training partner Jordan Childs earned 56.400. Olympic gold medalists Suni Lee and Jade Carey took third and fourth place, respectively.
Jocelyn Roberson, another of Biles' clubmates, finished fifth. Lee won the balance beam, and Cirith Jones won the balance beam, her only event on the first night.
Jordan Childs says tournament was 'most stressful' of his life
Childs, who finished the first day 2.5 points behind overall leader Simone Biles, said the qualifying round was “the most stressful competition of my life.”
“That's when you'll know if you're going to be successful,” she said.
That's quite a feat considering Biles had to withdraw from the team event at the Tokyo Olympics after struggling with the twisties, forcing her to compete on the bars and balance beam at the last minute with barely any warm-up time.
She feels that competing in NCAA gymnastics at UCLA has helped her develop confidence under pressure.
Biles again resembles the feisty teenager she was in Rio
Biles' attitude heading into these trials was completely different from her Tokyo stint.
She appears to be the same energetic 19-year-old we got to know at the 2016 Rio Olympics, smiling, laughing and cheering on her teammates.
Biles wasn't without mistakes here, but the palpable nervousness she felt even during the Tokyo Olympic trials seemed a far cry from now.
Biles' vault gets standing ovation
When Biles landed her namesake vault, the Yurchenko double pike, the arena crowd immediately rose to its feet.
She received a score of 15.975, the highest score of the night, beating her opponent by more than one point.
This move is one of the most amazing and difficult moves in women's gymnastics currently being performed in the world. She successfully completed the second vault, the “Chain,” and proved her ability to the selection committee for the Olympic vault final, which requires two vaults.
Suni Lee finishes strong on floor
What a day for the reigning Olympic all-around champion. The home crowd would have loved any performance, but it was Lee's impressive tumbling and dance elements that really took the show at Target Center.
Li looked like a balance beam and balance beam specialist early in the season, but in Paris she earned 55.475 points and could be a contender for an all-around medal.
Biles, Lee and Chiles take the lead
The Tokyo Olympic team was at the top of the leaderboard heading into the fourth and final rotation.
Simone Biles, Suni Lee and Jordan Childs rounded out the top three.
Olympic champion Carrie takes to the stage
Jade Carey showed off her signature move – rolling down a beam.
The reigning Olympic floor exercise champion looks set to defend her title in Paris, where she earned 14.075 points, placing her behind Chilis and Biles.
Simone Biles rolls on Taylor Swift and Beyonce's floor
The three American icons come together in Minneapolis tonight. Biles' floor routine is set to Taylor Swift's “…Ready For It?,” from her sixth album, “Reputation.” The remix Biles used also includes snippets of Travis Scott and Beyoncé's “Delresto (Echoes).”
“I love Taylor Swift and I love Beyoncé,” Biles said before the meeting. “They're my girls.”
She performed two of the moves to her name, including a stunning opening pass and triple twisting double back, which earned Biles a score of 14.850 and put her back on top of the all-around standings.
