Adventist Health Simi Valley is once again leading the way as one of only 10 hospitals in the United States to use the latest technology to provide relief to patients.
The hospital announced this week that it is one of the first hospitals in the country to perform robotic surgery using Intuitive's revolutionary da Vinci 5 surgical system. Surgeons used high-tech equipment on March 29 to treat an inguinal hernia.
Gigi Bean, 64, of Thousand Oaks said she was honored to be chosen to be the first patient to receive da Vinci 5 treatment at Adventist Health.
“I was a little nervous at first, but after the doctor explained how simple the surgery would be, I felt this was the best option for me,” Bean said in a statement.
A few days after the surgery, Bean said everything went well and the pain was minimal.
“Four days later, I feel great. It's really amazing,” Bean said. Acorn. “This is a great advancement in this field and I’m happy to be a part of it and move on with my life.”
Bean praised surgeon Dr. Andrea Pakula, head of robotic surgery at Adventist Health Simi.
“I'm looking forward to getting back to a regular exercise routine,” Bean said. “My inguinal hernia surgery was non-invasive and successful, leaving no scar.”
Intuitive is a world leader in minimally invasive treatments and a pioneer in robotic surgery. The company calls the da Vinci 5 “the most advanced and integrated platform we have ever created, poised to enable better outcomes, efficiency and insight for the future of minimally invasive treatments.” It is called “Designed”.
Beyond hernias, the da Vinci 5 can be used to assist surgeons and reduce healing times for patients requiring urological, gynecological, bariatric and acute general surgery procedures.
Da Vinci 5 is currently available to a limited number of healthcare customers worldwide. Adventist Health Simi Valley will be the only hospital in the greater Los Angeles area to receive this treatment at launch.
This surgical system has numerous enhancements, including a new surgeon controller and vibration and tremor control, making it the smoothest and most accurate system Intuitive has ever developed. .
The robot also features first-of-its-kind force-sensing technology. In preclinical testing with surgeons of all experience levels, the device can reduce the force exerted on tissue by up to 43%, potentially reducing trauma to the tissue. This may reduce recovery time.
Da Vinci 5 also features expanded computing power and advanced data capabilities. With improvements and additions such as Intuitive's My Intuitive app, SimNow (a virtual reality simulator), Case Insights (a computational observer), and Intuitive Hub (an edge computing system), it now has more than 10,000 times the computing power of the previous da Vinci Xi. Masu.
“We are very excited about the opportunity for Adventist Health Simi Valley Hospital to be one of the first facilities to offer the highest level of minimally invasive technology to patients in our community,” Pakula said. “I truly believe that we can continue to improve clinical outcomes and provide an overall better experience for patients, medical teams and surgeons.”
