The Shawsheen Tech baseball team won the state vocational championship for the third time in school history.
The Rams defeated Diman, 5-1, in Billerica, joining the 2017 and 2022 teams as occupational champions.
Shawsheen (19-3) got some great pitching from starter Will Trucks, who held the opposing team to a no-hitter through five innings. Trucks pitched a complete game, allowing just three hits and striking out seven.
Trucks contributed three hits, one RBI and two runs scored. Dillon Pratt (RBI) and Lucas Poirier each had two hits. Ryan Jamison drove in two runs and Robbie Welch added a hit and an RBI.
Women's Lacrosse
Essex Tech 9, GLT 7: Trailing 9-2 at halftime, Greater Lowell mounted a furious comeback in the state vocational semifinals only to fall narrowly to a loss.
Emma Finch had three goals and an assist, Megan Lesniak scored two goals, Aaliyah Coutu and Audrey Yang added one goal each, and goalie Julia Dunphy made seven saves.
Upper Cape 8, Shawsheen 4: Despite goalkeeper Mia Vacha making a career-high 20 saves, the Rams lost in the state vocational semifinals in Billerica.
Riley Luke led the offense with three goals, while Serra Salter also found the back of the net.
Men's Lacrosse
Shawsheen 20, Whittier 11: The Rams defeated CAC rival Whittier in the state vocational semifinals, and Shawsheen will play the winner of the match between Essex Tech and Blackstone Valley Tech on Friday.
Men's Tennis
Billerica 4, Somerville 1: The Indians got going with a win over No. 31 Somerville (12-2) in the second division qualifying round.
No. 34 Billerica (8-7) received singles wins from Abhinava Goswami (6-2, 3-6, 7-5), Nick Piazza (6-4, 6-2) and Nate Byrat (6-2, 6-1).
In the No. 1 doubles, Shreyansh Tiwari/Yuwal Kumar won 7-5, 6-1.
Maimonides 5, LC 0: The Crusaders were eliminated from the Division 3 tournament during a preliminary round match.
Lowell Catholic lost to No. 28 Maimonides at Gunn Academy in Waltham. No. 37 LC (6-5) defeated a strong match by No. 1 singles player Adam DiCiaccio, 7-6, 7-6. Jacob Thelen fought hard at No. 2 singles but lost 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. Keegan Windsor lost 8-6 in a tiebreaker at No. 3 singles.
Other scores: No. 33 Groton Dunstable (12-4) defeated No. 32 Pentucket 3-2 in a Division 3 preliminary round match.
Women's Tennis
Central 5, Everett 0: Singles victories by Kaylee Furbush (6-0, 6-0), Meg Washburn (6-0, 6-1) and Kaya Asmar (6-1, 6-0) led the Raiders to wins in the Division 1 preliminary round, while doubles victories went to Ella Gregorio/Morgan Bateman (6-0, 6-0) and Alessandra Sacchetti/Melina Panagiotakopoulos (6-0, 6-0).
Other scores: It was a tough day for the other local teams in the tournament.
In Division 3 action, No. 17 Tewksbury (11-6) lost 5-0 to No. 16 Hanover (10-7), No. 36 Lowell Catholic (7-8) was rounded off by No. 29 Foxboro (8-10) 5-0 and No. 28 Groton Dunstable (11-5) lost 5-0 to No. 5 St. John Paul II (21-0).
