The UFC Fight Night event on September 7 is officially happening, with the addition of a huge matchup featuring a former champion.
“Riyadh Season Noche UFC” set to take place at the Sphere in Las Vegas in September
Following UFC 305 in Perth, Australia, UFC will hold a Fight Night event at its Apex facility in Las Vegas on Aug. 24 and then return to the facility on Sept. 7 after a rare week-long break for the world's premier MMA promotion.
Earlier this month it was reported that top welterweight contenders Gilbert Burns and Shawn Brady had verbally agreed to headline the September 7 card, and now Marcel Dorff has confirmed that the two will face off in the main event at UFC's Apex facility.
Burns, a former welterweight title challenger, is currently on a two-fight losing streak for the first time in his career after losing a unanimous decision to Belal Muhammad at UFC 288 and then suffering a late stoppage in his bout against Jack Della Maddalena earlier this year.
Brady burst onto the welterweight rankings as an unbeaten contender before losing to Muhammad at UFC 280, but the 31-year-old also won last year, submitting Kelvin Gastelum with a kimura lock in the third round.
With the main event finally set, Ag Fight is also reporting that former women's strawweight champion Jessica Andrade will return to the event on September 7th to face Natalia Silva, who is ranked No. 8 in the women's flyweight division.
Andrade, currently ranked in the top 10 in both the strawweight and women's flyweight divisions, is riding a winning streak but would be looking to hand Silva her first UFC loss after Silva entered the fight in 2022 with five wins and an 11-fight winning streak.
The only other bout currently confirmed for the UFC Fight Night card on September 7 is a featherweight matchup between Calvin Kattar and Kyle Nelson, but with the main event and featured matchup between Andrade and Silva confirmed, fans should expect more bouts to be added to the card in the coming weeks.
