Sebastian Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) put on a masterclass performance to dominate previously undefeated Tim Tzu (24-1, 17 KOs) and win the WBO Junior title in Saturday night's bout. He won the middleweight title and the vacant WBC strap. Massacre at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
bleeding handicap
Whatever chance Tszyu had of retaining his WBO title, he lost the title in the third round to the 6-foot-5 Fundora with a nasty cut to the scalp with an elbow. Unable to see blood from that point on, Tszyu is disabled and unable to locate any incoming calls from Fundora.
What made things even more difficult for Tszyu was Fundora's high work rate, who overwhelmed Tim with punches he couldn't match.
The score was 116-112 for Tszyu and 116-112 for Fundora.
Despite Tszyu's best efforts, he was unable to deal with the following from Fundra:
1. High punch output
2. Height and reach
3. Good cardio
It was too early for Tszyu to be given this type of fighter after the departure of Keith Thurman and he needed more training time to prepare for Fundora's heights. Twelve days' notice wasn't enough for him for Tszyu and tonight he seemed lost.
Even if Tszyu was prepared, he didn't have the cardio or high work rate to match every shot Fundora threw. Now fans understand why Erickson Rubin lost to Fundora. He couldn't handle his size or workload and was treated worse than Tszyu tonight.
Tszyu has a tough road ahead.
After the fight, Fundora's promoter Sampson Lukowicz said he intended to give Tszyu a rematch, but for now he wants him to “maximize” his earnings by fighting Errol Spence Jr. next. It is said that He also said that after facing Spence, he would like to have a matchup between Fundora and Terrence Crawford.
What this means is that Tszyu may have to wait until those fights take place before rematching.
