Kirby Smart won back-to-back national championships and helped turn Georgia into a budding dynasty in college football, but the Bulldogs missed out on the College Football Playoff last year and are looking to expand for a third title. They're trying to get back into the postseason.
The first step in that long road begins this weekend at Sanford Stadium, when Georgia State returns to the football field to conclude spring practice with its annual G-Day game. Here's how and what to watch as things unfold at the scrimmage.

The Georgia quarterback returns after a very promising performance last year, passing for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Now, the Bulldogs have some decisions to make about how to protect him, especially at left guard and right tackle.
Smart is focused on building trench depth this season, with the return of Xavier Truss and Tate Rutledge key to the project. Micah Morris and Dylan Fairchild play left guard, and both played with the first team this spring.
secondary changes
Georgia lost three starters in its defensive backfield, most notably safety Malachi Starks and cornerback Daylen Everett, who return. Ellis Robinson, a five-star recruit in 2024, will compete for snaps at corner, as will Daniel Harris and Julian Humphrey.
Free safety is a hotly contested position, with several options to replace Javon Bullard. Dan Jackson, David Daniel Sisabane and JaCorey Thomas bring more experience, but five-star prospect K.J. Bolden could also add some pressure.
bulldogs backfield
Last year's productive rushing tandem of Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards is gone, but Georgia has made a key transfer in former Florida back Trevor Etienne. He is a proven SEC talent who has scored 14 points over the past two years.
But the Bulldogs would like to see depth behind him. Roderick Robinson ran for just under 200 total yards with two scores last season. At 240 pounds, he can add physicality to Georgia's ground game. Andrew Paul (1 TD last year) is also a player to keep an eye on.
