Savannah Marshall embarks on a new career in mixed martial arts to pursue a rivalry with American Claressa Shields.
Shields, boxing's undisputed middleweight champion, has recently competed in the PFL Smart Cage, and Marshall himself is set to make his MMA debut in June.
Shields defeated Marshall in a thrilling 2022 title match. Marshall continued his undisputed fight at super-middleweight, but could potentially meet again in MMA or boxing in the future.
Dakota Dicheva, an MMA fighter who also competes in the PFL, believes Marshall can get revenge in an MMA contest.
“It's going to be an exciting fight. Their history in boxing has brought a lot of attention to the sport, so I can only imagine it would be a great matchup in mixed martial arts as well. When Savannah comes to train… “I've never met Claressa, but I support Savannah 100 percent, I'm really impressed with her,'' Dicheva said. sky sports.
She praises both of them for making the foray into this new sport.
“I've trained in Savannah a little bit. What I find interesting about Savannah is seeing natural athletes try different things, and it's the same with Claressa Shields,” she said. added.
“It's just a natural fighter to be able to mix it up and do different martial arts. Savannah, too, she's a great boxer, but she's also just a great athlete, so these things that she does The fact that he can kick and do all the martial arts, jiu-jitsu, and wrestling, it's amazing to watch.
“She's not afraid to try something new or do something different, and that's what I really like about her.
“A lot of people are afraid to do that. They have strong egos. They don't want to put themselves in a vulnerable position. But she's doing it, and it's important for her in the future. It’s only beneficial.”
“It's humbling to do different things like that. I think being in uncomfortable positions like that is what really makes you grow.”
Boxing coach Peter Fury will be in Marshall's corner for his mixed martial arts debut, but is looking forward to eventually guiding him into a boxing rematch with Shields.
“I don't know anything about MMA. Tom Aspinall's father, Andy Aspinall, does all the MMA stuff in Savannah and does a good job,” Fury said. sky sports. “I only speak if I don’t think the punches have been rolled correctly.
“I think Savannah will do very well in this race because she's a strong, big, strong unit. She's good with long leverage as well. I think she'll do well.”
However, he said: “The most important thing for me is to resolve this issue, get Savannah boxing back in October, November, and have a big rematch with Claressa in the spring. That's what I want to do as Savannah's trainer. “That's nice. ”
