Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is currently the most famous Mexican boxer. He currently holds the undisputed title of world super middleweight champion, but despite his illustrious resume, Canelo still doesn't consider himself the greatest Mexican boxer of all time, although he believes time will tell and that title may be available to him.
On Canelo being the best
“When you talk about Mexican history, you talk about a lot of fighters,” Canelo said in an interview with Univisión Fresno. “I don't think I'm the best fighter in Mexican history. At the end of the day, When I retire, I believe my record will speak for itself, so there is no need for me to make a declaration. Now I feel like I'm the best in the world and the best in Mexico. That's what matters.”
Canelo has been a champion at super welterweight and middleweight, but he has had his greatest success in the 168-pound division, where he became the undisputed champion. He has successfully defended his WBA, WBO, IBF and WBC titles multiple times. Canelo also fought Dmitri Bivol at light heavyweight and would like a rematch in the future.
Who is Alvarez's next opponent?
Canelo's next fight is scheduled for September, but the opponent has yet to be confirmed. The list of potential challengers also includes the names of David Benavidez and Terence Crawford. Additionally, Matchroom fighter Edgar Berlanga has emerged as another possible opponent.
