The San Jose Sharks are bringing back one of their fan favorites as news broke Wednesday afternoon that Barclay Goodrow had been acquired by San Jose, with the team assuming the veteran forward's cap hit of more than $3.6 million for the next three seasons.

Barclay Goodrow has been acquired by the Sharks
Goodrow is returning to the roots of his decade-long NHL career, having played for the Sharks from 2014-15 until 2019-20 before being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Toronto native was waived by the New York Rangers on Tuesday but was acquired by the Sharks.
The veteran forward struggled during the regular season with the Rangers, recording just four goals, eight assists and 12 points in 80 games. His Corsi was 35.4 and his relative Corsi was -20.1. But the 31-year-old saw some postseason action in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Goodrow recorded six goals and eight points in 16 games as the Rangers reached the Eastern Conference Finals.
He has 60 goals and 109 assists for 169 points in 572 career games. Goodrow had postseason success with the Sharks but won two titles with the Lightning.
What it means
Rangers general manager Chris Drury got a big blessing in disguise: He didn't have to use a buyout and Goodrow's contract was off the books, giving him more flexibility to pursue talent to help lead the Rangers to another Stanley Cup Final.
Goodrow returns to familiar ground with the Sharks, a team that is far from postseason glory, but Goodrow has brought it to the franchise. The veteran helped the Sharks to a Game 7 win over the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Sharks general manager brought back a beloved player, but this isn't the first move the team has made today. San Jose has young players, but if the team keeps Goodrow, his return would add a veteran presence.
