Francisco Marquez scored in the first half and the Eagles advanced to the state tournament for the second straight year. Last year, the Eagles lost in the state semifinals.
San Elizario won state titles in 2015, 2018 and 2019. Riverside was aiming to go to state for the first time since 2011. San Elizario will next play in the state semifinal round on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. CDT. The Class 4A state title match is scheduled for Friday at 2:30 p.m. CDT.
