Veronica Samos has always loved fostering the mind, body, and soul connection that comes from practicing martial arts. The Cranston native began practicing her Shaolin martial arts of Qi Gong and Kung Fu in New York, inspired by her master, after years of training in Bushinkan martial arts and earning a black belt. she said. Later, when her teacher invited Samos to start teaching her own class, she accepted. “My purpose is to help improve people's lives,” she said. “It's not just physical training, it's mental training.” Samos' education business began in Manhattan, New York, where she lived for about 30 years. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she sold her stock to a partner and returned to Rhode Island to be closer to her family. Her search for the right location led Samos to a location in Coventry and in October 2023 she opened Ocean State Shaolin, where she teaches Shaolin Kung Fu, Kickboxing and Qigong to all ages. . So far, she has developed a consistent group of customers and hopes to expand her practice to provide performance opportunities at parades and other events.
